I often get the question “what made you become an Avon Representative?” Well here is my story:
As I was growing up AVON was always a big part of my life. My Grandmother Alice Dunn was an AVON Sales and Leadership Rep. I was always in awe at the numerous boxes filled with Avon products and the big drawer (I wasn’t supposed to get into) that was filled to the top with nail polishes and cosmetics. Every holiday and birthday everyone knew they would receive something from Avon…and I for one always looked forward to it!
It wasn’t until I had graduated from college, gotten married and had children of my own that Avon came back into my life. I was working as a Program Director for a non-profit agency heading up special events, teaching workshops, doing grant writing and Public Relations. I loved what I was doing…until the day my second daughter woke up in the middle of the night unable to breathe. She had developed pneumonia and that combined with her asthma created a number of problems. She was rushed to Akron Children’s Hospital. Both of her lungs had collapsed and she was admitted to the PICU where she stayed for 2 weeks on complete life support. Doctors told me to go home and pray. I was devastated! It was during this time that my Executive Director had called me, not to check on my daughter, but to inform me that I needed to get my priorities straight and get back to work! Needless to say she got my resignation soon after that call.
I was a stay at home mom for about a year and had a few more daughters (five girls in all). I was looking for something to do to that would make me happy and let me keep my priorities straight (just as they were). I wanted something that would allow me the freedom to always put my children first and still feel like I was contributing financially to our family.
It was then that I remembered my Grandma Dunn. I thought, “Why Not?” I went online and found the contact information of a local Rep. I met with her the very next day and signed up. I thought, with 5 daughters I am bound to need this discount on makeup! At the end of the meeting, I was pumped! I had no idea that I could make serious money with Avon. My upline explained that I could earn a $250 bonus if I met the requirements of Unit Leader, so I did it in 3 campaigns! I currently have a strong and growing team. Over these last ten years with Avon my “Why” has changed many times. I discovered I had no limitations except those I put on myself. I could reach for the stars and shine as bright as they do! I have enjoyed helping others discover their own “Why” and rediscover it again and again as they too grow and learn that they too can achieve anything they set their mind too!
